How to complete Dimensional Results
Dimensional results demonstrate that the submitted product was measured against the current design record.
Complete the fields
- Characteristic identifier
- Use the balloon or callout number that links directly to the drawing or specification.
- Requirement
- Transcribe the nominal, tolerance, limit, datum reference, thread requirement, geometric tolerance, or note exactly from the current record.
- Actual result
- Record the measured result with units and the required precision. Do not round a value in a way that changes acceptance.
- Measurement method or equipment
- Identify the gauge, fixture, CMM program, test method, or other method used where required by the customer or report format.
- Sample identification and disposition
- Identify the sample, cavity or serial number when relevant, result status, and authorized deviation reference for any nonconforming result.
Step-by-step completion sequence
- Use the current approved drawing and create a traceable callout list if required.
- Prepare the measurement plan and verify the measurement system is suitable.
- Measure the required sample under the specified conditions.
- Record actual values and units against each characteristic; do not report only “pass.”
- Review every out-of-specification result before submission and obtain required customer disposition.
PPAP control point: The customer’s current submission request, customer-specific requirements, and approved forms control. This guide explains a practical way to prepare the record; it does not authorize a substitute format or acceptance criterion.
