How to complete Checking Aids

Checking-aid evidence shows that the fixtures, gauges, templates, test equipment, or software used to verify the product are defined and controlled.

Complete the fields

Aid identification
Record the gauge, fixture, template, software, or test-equipment ID and revision.
Purpose and characteristic
State what characteristic or decision the aid supports and the applicable part number.
Design and acceptance evidence
Include drawings, photos, calibration or verification records, functional checks, and approval evidence as required.
Control status
Record location, owner, maintenance, calibration interval, software version, and reaction if the aid is damaged or fails verification.

Step-by-step completion sequence

  1. List every customer-requested checking aid used for PPAP or production acceptance.
  2. Verify design, capability, calibration, and identification requirements.
  3. Link the aid to the control-plan method and MSA evidence where applicable.
  4. Document acceptance and make the aid available for customer review if requested.
  5. Maintain the aid under the defined calibration, maintenance, and change-control process.
PPAP control point: The customer’s current submission request, customer-specific requirements, and approved forms control. This guide explains a practical way to prepare the record; it does not authorize a substitute format or acceptance criterion.
